Ang LINOG ay ang paguyog sang duta tungod sa biglaan nga hulag sa faults o fractures sa crust sang Earth.

ANATOMIYA SANG LINOG

  1. FOCUS
    • Ang punto sa sulod sang Earth kung diin gaumpisa ang linog.
  2. EPICENTER
    • Ang punto sa tunga sang Earth sa ibabaw lang sang focus.
  3. FAULT
    • Ang fracture sa mga bato nga parte sang crust.
  4. PLATES
    • Ang madako nga parte sang lupa nga nagahimo nga outer layer sa surface sang Earth, kag kung diin ang paghulag niya sa faults ang naga trigo sang linog.
  5. SEISMIC WAVES
    • Ang wave nga gahatag panguyog sa lupa halin sa linog.

EARTHQUAKE (linog) is the shaking of the ground caused by sudden motions along faults or fractures in the Earth’s crust.

ANATOMY OF AN EARTHQUAKE

  1. FOCUS
    • The point within the Earth where an earthquake rupture starts.
  2. EPICENTER
    • The point at the center of the Earth directly above the focus.
  3. FAULT
    • A fracture in the rocks that makes up the Earth’s crust.
  4. PLATES
    • A massive rock that makes up the outer layer of the earth’s surface, and whose movement along faults triggers earthquake.
  5. SEISMIC WAVES
    • Waves that transmit the energy released by an earthquake.

TYPES OF EARTHQUAKE

  1. TECTONIC
    • earthquakes produced by sudden movement along faults and plate boundaries.
  2. VOLCANIC
    • earthquakes produced by movement of magma beneath volcanoes.

8.2 magnitude hits PANAY ISLAND in 1948 named LADY CAY CAY that left 74 casualties, $3.5 million in damages.

THE PACIFIC RING OF FIRE

  • An area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
  • 80% of earthquakes are HERE.

Since 1600, 106 earthquakes with a magnitude of… 6.0 and up has been recorded.

There are more than 20 earthquakes every day in the Philippines (most tremors are not felt)

WEST PANAY FAULT is very active and continues to move.

Iloilo City is in Panay Island. It sits in West Panay Fault. It runs from Aklan through Capiz and ends in the town of San Joaquin, Iloilo.
